Painful Smile Poem by Michael Fitzwater

Painful Smile

While surrounded by the dark.
We stare into the bright.
Waiting for the spark.
Let us see the light.

Our smiles full of joy.
Hearts full of pain.
Love we do deploy.
Within, going insane.

And thy roses be black.
For the red has faded.
When will we be back.
Our lives so jaded.

The idea of hope we do hold.
For it is all we can see.
But in time, will grow old.
And slowly leave thee...
