Paper Roses Poem by Mikala Boyd

Paper Roses

Crisp white ruffled petals arranged in a bunch,
Innocent, beautiful and pure.
Paper roses in my heart,
Paper roses at the start.
Down comes the rain,
Threatening a disaster.
I protect my paper roses,
From all but one drop-
A memory, a reminder of what has passed.
Up comes the sun shining in my eyes,
The harsh bright light brings in demise.
Tears sweep lonely channels down my face,
Others laugh and say I'm a disgrace.
I forget my paper roses amidst the storm,
The tears mangle the petals, all is forlorn.
Paper roses in my heart,
Not so perfect as the start.
But mine to keep and mine to give,
However I want to live.
