Part Of The Night Poem by William Brooks

Part Of The Night

(How! Why)
I had it planned out!
You spat it in my face.
You laughed behind my back.

I watched you kick us while we were dying.
Tripped us as we ran for our lives.
(My hands are at your neck!)
And I think I love you.

(You take it back)
Tightened the slack.
(I've lost my will)
I can't react

You're walking home alone,
The streets no-longer lit.
Then they come up,
From the darkness.

I try to save you,
But they defeat me.
They beat you,
Consume you.

Now we're together.
In a new world without light.
No longer do we fear the darkness.
We are part of the night.
