Parting Out Poem by Carrie Eriksson

Parting Out

To see in us, you.
Such an urgently mortal need.
Something reserved for the living.
To see how you continue,
Proof of your life--
Now parted out post-wreckage.

There was a quip long ago
About chickens and parts is parts,
But so not true
When it comes to you.
She has your hips and
I got your feet.

The sum of our
parts do not equal you.

My mom's death in 2009 changed who i was. How does one continue a story that someone else started?
