Patricia's First Anniversary (11th Oct 2007) Poem by Isam Hussain

Patricia's First Anniversary (11th Oct 2007)

Emotions, like a yo-yo,
swing high and low,
tears ebb and flow,
brief flashes of joy
break through my grey day
mimicking normality.

‘Time will heal', they say,
‘but the scars will stay.'
Memories will turn sweet,
the heart will start to beat,
blood will rush through the vein,
and your life will not be in vain'.

I wish it were true.
Alas, it is not so.
The day remains grey
keeping hope at bay.

She came to me last October
as I woke up from slumber,
spoke to me in an urgent whisper
of a date ― the third of November.
So clear was the vocal encounter
my faith in it will never falter.

I have a date with destiny,
a tryst with a lovely lady.
will she be there for me?
Oh, yes, most certainly.
