Peaceful Freedom Poem by Amanda R. McKinnon

Peaceful Freedom

Time passes by and the wounds start to mend,
I've begun to enjoy this life once again.
Leaving you behind and the memories we shared.
I finally realize that you never really cared.
Each day that passes I find new beauty in life,
No more tears; I'm burying the pain and strife.
For the first time in years I feel at peace,
I'm finding happiness and breathing with ease.
My world has changed and my heart found a smile,
Living my life to the fullest in my carefree style.
Smiling comes easy and my laughter so smooth,
My soul doesn't cry the way that it use to.
I've become someone that I never knew I could be,
Life really changes when you finally break free.
The pieces that fell and got lost in the dark,
Made their way back when I found a new spark.
My soul you tried to beat, I'm standing tall now,
Couldn't break my spirit; Couldn't keep me down.
I may have lost some battles but I've won the war,
Walking away from the darkness as I lock the door.
Finally at peace enjoying the calm from within,
I know I'll never have to live the nightmare again.
