Pennies On My Blanket Poem by Mark. A Heathcote

Pennies On My Blanket

Don't throw pennies on my blanket
When I'm learning to cry
When I'm learning to fly
Reverse gravity

Don't throw pennies on my blanket
Sure, I'll get by, the lord hasn't given me a tumour, sure I'll live
and greet you with a smile
It might not be a Knightsbridge penthouse
But it'll make you pause awhile

Don't throw pennies on my blanket
Hoping I'll sing
Or stand up and dance like a stooge
I don't need no hand up either
From a bankrupt bookie who'd steal from his mother

Don't throw pennies on my blanket
Thinking you're above a fall
I'm just keeping it warm
For your hard descent
When you too can't make the rent

Don't throw pennies on my blanket
I've got the moon and stars for company
While you've got a carousel horse
And a bit between the teeth
