Perennial Friendship Poem by Elizabeth Shield

Perennial Friendship

It's so sad when friendships die
And you do not know the reason
Slowly slipping from their mind
Falling leaves turning the season.

All the time you spend is there
Floating out in nether space
And loneliness your ghostly shadow
As you go from place to place.

When you see them again by chance
If you try to meet their eye
Perhaps they see your hopeful look
Maybe they too would like to try...

For friendships blossom and they fade
Like flowers through the changing days
And like the bulbs after spring thaw
We'll bloom once more: friends after all.
