Perpetual Motion Poem by Ian Friend

Perpetual Motion

The cycle remains the same
Seventy hours a week
Seven days with little sleep
Work, Eat, Stress, Repeat
The bills begin to pile
Paycheck's gone
Past due on the rest
Struggle with the rent
Scrounge for two weeks

Finally the check comes in
Life is sweet
Till I awaken the very next day
The till is empty
The pets need fed
Nothing lost and nothing gained

Spinning my wheels
Clicking my heels
Nothing seems the same
Yet, nothing seems to change
I've been up and I've been down
Yet I rarely seem to come back around

The daily grind gets to my head
My heart and my bed
It's been weeks
Frustration inside of me
Angry, Hungry, Horny
I feel old before my time

I feel like I'm gonna blow
What's the point
I'll still feel the same tomorrow
Time to forget
Drink myself to sleep
Wake up and do it all over again
The cycle remains the same
