Persimmons and Possums
By Robert R. Railey

God and Mother Nature must have thought long and hard to have come up with such a magnificent treat; though some city folks might have missed out on this rare delight
Nonetheless, hunters and hikers have known for years of the flavor of this delicate fruit which is said to have a cantaloupe and watermelon like texture but the taste may be too tart for some
On the other hand, many wild animals, such as opossums and deer, to name just a few, are especially fond of this seasonal treat
Unfortunately, though, the fruits of the persimmon tree are only available on frosty late fall or early winter days
So then let's go out to the woods on those crisp fall days when the fruits are ripe and ready to be picked, and there might even be an apple there too
