Pete, You'Re A Rock (An Excerpt) (For Pete Sampras) - Poem by Lester J. De Los Santos

Pete, you're a rock:
created from dust;
a breath, a spirit-
a good man, you're Pete!

Pete, you're a rock:
with heart and reason
to love and wrestle
life's game and question.

Pete, you're a rock:
encased in gold-
a picture of a legend,
an image to behold.

Pete, you're a rock:
a champion, a hero;
a winner today,
a victor tomorrow.

Pete, you're a rock:
who needs the Rock,
for all your tennis days
and for endless ages...
