Ph: Echo: What A Pair! Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Echo: What A Pair!

Rating: 4.0

First ‘You and I' then ‘Not That It Matters'
Your versifying leaves even unsung
Souls shell-shocked in naught but rags and tatters
Thieves are brought down alive from their crosses
To join the ranks of the newly un-hung.
A sigh resonates shaking the whole world
As it witnesses God handling losses.

You're longing to know you'll always belong
To me, Yes! (and the one thousand others
Who would die to be the man in your song) .
Not one of us ever has seen your face
Though in loving you we become brothers,
Are conquered, before lions we are hurled,
Before slaughter, dream one will win the race.

Look out boys! There is
Lightning in them there hills!

Poet's Notes:
Another Echo Poem..

You've heard of the 'Tale of Two Cities? Well this is a tale of two poems that I hope you may have read. Look for and read the two Lora Colon poems 'You and I' and 'What Does it Matter' and then read my poem 'What A Pair! ' for extra reading pleasure. OK, I know, but my almost accurate substitute title 'Not That It Matters' is close and I chose rhyme over accuracy.

I think its a really good poem, to me it has a cynical view of love, usually the experience of it leads a greater bitterness then the fantasy of it. Although reading into it the expression of that love is multifold from the interpretation, is it Love for a person or a nation? You don't romanticise love the way some writers do, which is something I greatly admire. So much meaningful depth can be read again and again for different interpretation, DAMN the naysayers and their quickness to condemnation, an amazing write thank you for sharing

A lovely reply, Lora's poems. I read them both on your advice, and found you and I, a lovely description of dark satire, embellished with witty use of paradoxical traits. I love this style of Echo poetry (I guess you yourself have coined this term...isn't it?) . Its indeed a lovely way to appreciate someone, and answer their beckoned call... A lovely style my friend! .
