Pieces Of Eight Poem by Laurence Overmire

Pieces Of Eight

You ask me why
I cry so easily
Even for the plight of a stranger

I am a poet
I carry the pain of
The lost generations

I bleed with the centuries
Old yearnings of wounds
Never healed

And bear it
Heavy burden
Within

The unlocked
Treasure chest of the
Buried

Human heart.
