Play It Safe Poem by BrandyJane Howard

Play It Safe

Why do we always play it safe?
We play it safe to hide who we are,
To show others we're not afraid,
To tell the world that everything is okay.
We live in a world that is nonsense
We hold onto pride and ego,
but yet we tell others not to.
We play it safe, but we are all hypocritical.
We tell others that we are perfect,
but we have so many flaws.
We live in a world that,
everything we do is judged
We are judged by our love, sexuality, gender,
and by our looks.
We play it safe because we are afraid,
because it is not okay,
because we are not perfect,
and because we are judged.
We need to stop playing it safe,
we need to take risks.
Let everyone know that
even if we are afraid,
that it's not okay,
that we're not perfect,
that we are judged,
We are who we are.
That there is no shame in hiding.
So ask yourself,
Why do I play it safe?
