Poem 088, Sonnet 40: On The Lord’s Day (Transfiguration)

I join you brothers in this very night
This holy eve; I come to celebrate,
Across a thousand shores, I levitate,
A ghost! And here I am, we reunite
And once again our summer is delight
And Heaven has us in exalted state
And lo! Once more our loves illuminate
The darkness, that the moon in silver white
Draws back her luring locks and steals away
Behind the range and leaves us, happy ring,
About the romping fire caroling:
“Today’s the fête of God the Lord, today!
And we, O Lord, are but your sturdy men…”
Oh blessed day, when will you come again?
