Porch: Leave Of Absence Poem by bob barci

Porch: Leave Of Absence

The cool breeze
at the end of the warm day
is most inviting.
It invites me out to the porch.
But, once there -
I want to do much more than just sit.
I need to leave the porch - and walk.
So - walk - I do.
Feeling the breeze against my body.
Inhaling the unique smell of barbecue.
Being tempted to run along with joggers.
Trying to become friends with small barking dogs.
Waving and saying, “Hi Shorty! ”
to little kids who stare and smile at me.
I realize now
how much I miss
when I come out to the porch and just - stay - put.
