Portent Of Things To Come Poem by Laurence Overmire

Portent Of Things To Come

In the Big Bang of her birth
Blood spattered across the walls
The doctor's violent hand lashed the tender behind
With a thunderous smack!

A scream erupted from the newborn throat
Gushing air
And spewing hot anger upon an insensitive world
That could so viciously
Rip life out of the guts of the void.

The scorching cries of pain burned through the corridors
Out into the night and
Deep into the darkest reaches of space
Proclaiming to the universe
'I am here! '
