Potter's Field Poem by Barbara Vanier

Potter's Field

I know just what I’ll do
Betraying me I betray you too
It’s not that my love is a lie
But there is this pain inside

You look on me with such disdain
Your pride pours down on you like rain
Exchange of death you give to me
A kiss of love to set you free

Walking through these night shadows
No one mentioned the black gallows
Hands upon me I’m full of dread
Spill my life now soon I’m dead
I couldn’t see what they mean
This pain around my throat I bleed
For your silver I felt zeal
But now your coins lay in Potter’s field

Silent darkness creeps up on me
As I hang from this living tree
They’ve taken me they’ll come for you
There killing me they’ll kill you too

Walking through these night shadows
No one mentioned the black gallows
Hands upon me I’m full of dread
Spill my life now soon I’m dead
I couldn’t see what they mean
This pain around my throat I bleed
For your silver I felt zeal
But now your coins lay in Potter’s field
