Prayers Poem by Mihai Cosmescu

Prayers

Rating: 5.0

it seems I haven't slept at all in ages
but I did sleep, and dreamt my life go past
and couldn't stop it... I just stood, aghast,
and hoped to see the sun as it arises
and prayed for one more day, to be my last.

the day has come, but will my answered prayers
restrain my soul from asking once again?
could i pray yet again for oxygen,
and stand once more as one who still compares
beautiful life to dreadful lion's den?

I can, and will, and all the powers now
could not detain me from at least one try
and no one, except you, could amplify
my want of life, of death, of sorrowed brow
with one mere sob, with just one muffled cry...
