Preserving Scars - Poem by Autumn Winds

She wakes up
Screaming
Crying

From nightmares
Terror
Fear

Scars
On her body
Show it all

Abuse
Mistreatment
Neglect
All her history
Is written
Upon her skin

Dripping in
Rose red
Ink

Scars
Tell her experiences
Memories

Engraved in
Her mind
Imprinted

Never to
Be without
Them

Never to
Be without
Pain

Reminders
Everywhere she
Looks

Of the past
Preserved
In her skin

She covers them
As best as she
Can

She hugs herself
Rocking back and forth
Rembering lost pain

Remembering
How she got those
Marks

How those
Memories
Were made

She will
Never be without
Those scars

Forever
Preserved
In her skin
