Presidential Questions Poem by Barry Van Allen

Presidential Questions

Rating: 5.0

We just don't ask ourselves,
the proper kind of questions - - -
... It's not ' If we can? ',
... It's not ' If we will? ',
when we should be asking - - -
... ' If we should? '

We understand too well,
what needs no explanation,
that if we can - - -, we will,
knowing too damn well, that we shouldn't.
... and too often do not ask!
... 'cause we don't want to hear the answers.

What could have happened once,
... what should have happened once,
probably can't happen now ,
because, we never asked those questions.

Nobody gets to do that, with all of us involved,
sure, your high - horse needs a rider,
... a modern ' Paul Revere ',
but, who ends up in the saddle,
... is not ever really clear.

Lots of horses, lots of riders,
and lots of questions in the end,
... many asked, too many not,
with too much that is depending on,
... those answers that they give,
... to get elected!

The only thing that seems assured,
is that the one we end up picking,
will grow old before our eyes,
as they begin to realize,
that the world is so much heavier,
than it was looking from the outside!
