Profile Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Profile

Some people visit my profile -
I get to know and wonder why.
There is nothing spectacular in my profile,
my friends must be disappointed.

Friends! How many friends do I have?
I do not know.
I do not count.
Those who were friends once upon a time are quite established now.
I remember them.

I am a bit wayward.
The road that was once my favourite has lost charm,
the fault is with me, not with the road.

I have learnt to love distance,
and live with it.
'Distance lends enchantment to the view.'
Distance - my passion, my heart and soul.

Power. Pelf. Pomp.
I have seen and I am tired of all.
I love to be I, me, only me,
I do not want claps or handshake.

The night sky full of stars is so dear to me,
allow me to be there,
the cloud will be my pillow,
let me sleep there tonight.

My real profile lives in the sky.
