Promised Poem by Vianca Borrero

Promised

I awake to yelling
I notice your not in bed
I get out of bed n hide next to the door and watch
I see the door broken in and see him standing there
Hes yelling at you
I can only see your back
Its as tense as a rock
I hide behind the door and watch
You try and push him out
He pushes you back
You threaten to call the cops
I hear everything
I cry
You say
'Your never coming back'
He gets angry and smacks you across your face
I freeze
Suddenly my whole body is on fire
I run from hiding
I jump on him and scream
'you dont hit my mommy! '
You push me pick me up and throw me across the room
I cant get up
Its all hazy
I see you charge at him
He buckles under you
You say
'get out of my house! '
I get up and jump on him
I keep punching him
He slaps me across the face and tosses me aside
I yell and cry
'mommy! '
You call the cops
Through it all i feel frozen
You pick me up and try to stop my crying
I hug you tight
you carry me to bed and tuck me in
I look up at you and whisper
'hes not coming back right mommy? '
You smile sadly and whisper
'no baby hes not i promise'
You sing my favorite lullaby
I fall asleep dreaming of pink ponies
I awake
Your not in bed
I hide behind the door and look
Hes back
Your hugging him
I sit by the door and cry softly so you cant hear
That's the moment the hatred started
From that moment on
My world shattered like glass
I cried softly
'why mommy? you promised'
Now my world shattered and a big piece of it was pierced into my heart
That piece
Was you....
