Promises - Poem by crystal angel

What are promises?
If not an empty lie?
Wrapped up beautifully,
seeming to fall from the sky.

An artful way of saying
something you don't mean.
Giving someone false hope
when nothing is as it seems.

You promise forever.
You say you'll never leave.
but promises have been broken before
and everyone always leaves.

So take this box of promises
and unwrap all the lies.
Hand me whatever is left
and I'll toss them to the skies.

Your promises are always broken.
Lies are are all I see...
I gave up on you,
why don't you give up on me?
