Proudly Nigerian Poem by Michael Oluwasegun Adesiji

Proudly Nigerian

I can only leave
A thousand mouths unclosed
A billon eyeballs stiffed
To the sounds of a billion palms
Applauding the brilliance of a geek
However, I am no human,
But a beast
I am the magical steppings
Of Austin jay jay Okocha

Of valour and of pride,
I am a Nigerian
A Nigerian in truth!
A Nigerian in spirit!

I leave a host of jaws dropped
But the one after me broken
With my fist crisscrossing
In the airways
Till a thunderstorm strikes boom!
Then, I see the middle man Waving and waiting
For my hands to be raised
Within an aroma of victory
And the savouring one of blood
I am the undying champion
In Anthony Olaseni Joshua

Of valour and of pride,
I am a Nigerian
A Nigerian in truth!
A Nigerian in spirit!

I am the globally famous ink
Spilling from the feathers
Of the great Chinua Achebe's wrist
Like Nile, I am the endless spring
Gushing through Chimamanda Adichie's pen grip.
I am the nobel wizard with
A scalp painted sky-grey
I am no human; so my works do say
But, through the trunk of an Elephant in Dutse
Through the horns of a cattle
At the central Wuse, I say
With an echoing voice

Of valour and of pride,
I am a Nigerian
A Nigerian in truth!
A Nigerian in spirit!

I can only leave your body busy
Your garments soaked
By bliss own dew
And some euphonic pleasures
Of your soul's own choice
I am the everly tuneful voice of Wizkid
The harmonizing sounds of David
Oh! I am the immortal lyrics
Of the great Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Of valour and of pride,
I am a Nigerian
A Nigerian in truth!
A Nigerian in spirit!
