Puppet X,14 - Poem by Jerry Ratch

We thought we saw

We thought if we could
just make it through
the business of growing up

We thought things like glass
were normal

And trees fell for no reason

– Otherwise the skin would fly off
in one great sheet

– Otherwise the skin would
fly off the planet

Is what that is…

I saw a bug standing up
in a dropp of water

I saw myself
far away
in a window

The swan
on earth…

It has happened to us all

“One saw a fire
One saw rain”

Now there is only
to forget…

You're not supposed
to look

How could I ever?
