Puppy Love Poem by Sherri Vogel

Puppy Love

Some call it obsession I call it puppy love
I think my furry friend is a gift from God above.
Our neighbor’s named him Dusty he’s an 80 pound male
Golden Retriever with a long wagging tail.
The day he crawled under the fence so he and I could meet
Was the day I fell in love with him he was tiny, cute, and sweet.
It’s hard to believe he’s already four and wow has he grown up
On the outside he’s a dog but in the inside he’s a pup.
When I buy him a new toy he wiggles and shakes with glee
Barks and jumps, he’s overjoyed, he makes me so happy.
He’s got the biggest, kindest heart he’s a caring affectionate pet
Always shows his feelings every chance he gets.
He’s licked my face, my ear, my neck, and yes he’s licked my hand
And if I have to leave him he doesn’t understand.
Wonders, why is this fence between us while staring at the door
When she coming back outside I want to play some more?
He has the saddest looking big brown eyes when I tell him goodbye
If he sees me pet another dog it breaks his heart and then he cries.
He definitely lacks in patience and he doesn’t like to share
Craves undivided attention and sheds a lot of hair.
He makes me feel special believes his time is worth
Spending it with me while we’re both on this earth.
I am blest and I am lucky God cared enough to send
My faithful, loyal companion in a big four legged friend.
Dusty’s quite a character a cherished gift from up above
Some call it obsession but they’re wrong it’s
'Puppy Love.'
