Puzzle Piece Poem by Jeff Wrubel

Puzzle Piece

When your fading glow darkens a lover

The silhouette draws a tattoo on your skin

When you hold a father as he crosses over

Then a piece of you will die and follow him

Your ink leaves a mark on their soul too

Part of him lives on in that void in you

We are shaped from the pieces forged in our love

A kiln fire in our eyes and blood warms the stove

Our own completed puzzles we'll never see

May the hands that love us hold the final piece

Their hearts guide the eyes to that finished scene

We leave the table to fly away, so free
