Question Of Shakespeare

Did you think to say
'Remember when you were as old as I am now',
but prefer
'Remember since you owed no more time than I do now',
as the better poetry,
to dumb-found the senses
of the unread,
or is that how
in your time
it is said?

Shakespeare's time is now a long time ago and it would be hard to say which version appealed more then. Very appealing.
