Rain In The Hills Poem by benu b

Rain In The Hills

the wind has settled now.
the rain on the walnuts
outside the window appears green. the horizon,
marked by hills, is a coat of cloud,
as it was to my father.

a friend calls me
to say he has got a scholarship
I'm pleased. but how many
steps does it take for a
man to leave the hills?
I wonder

drop by drop the rain
takes over. the hills
dissolve
into a raindrop
caught in
peach blossom
in spring

the pines whisper,
their gnarled trunks wet.
I long for your lap
to hide my soul

there's so much rainfall can do
I can hear my footsteps
in the fields
