Please...reach out to me
And give me a hug.
One that I feel I do not deserve.
In the irony of my weakness,
Not willing to give what I crave.
My true feelings I hold in reserve.
Oh, be patient so
With this fickle state of mine.
And dwell with insight too.
For when you approach
With love in your heart,
I may push away, when I truly need you.
I may carelessly lash out
And point out things which you lack...
Oh, so angrily!
Yet my outward behavior
In truth it be known,
Is a reflection of how I feel about me.
So, if you must judge
Or think less of me,
Or of me you wish to deride.
Direct it towards the outer shell,
And away from the child
that is hurting inside.
Don't give up on me,
And I won't give up on you,
In time things can resolve, you will see!
But until that occurs,
Look deep in my soul,
I ask of you, please... reach out to me.
