Reading Sunday Morning Ads Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Reading Sunday Morning Ads

First thing I do after feeding the dog
is sit at the kitchen table and read the ads
in the Sunday editions of both papers-
the Tribune and the Sun-Times

With cup of Folger's coffee at hand
I separate the papers into news and ads
editorial sections go by the board mostly
just a lot gibberish it seems to me

Ah! but those ads! I think how different
it would be to live where ads were restricted
to the local car dealer and a franchise grocery,
where one is not inundated with slick ads!

Dominick's, Jewel-Osco and Butera offer savings
on products from Procter and Gamble to Folgers,
JCPenney touts appliances and spring fashions,
Best Buy delivers All-Star HD Lineup TV on sale!

By God, I think it's a veritable consumer's heaven
every Sunday morning! Better than the comics
when I was a kid waiting for Pa to yield them to me!
Who can deny that there's a lot to be praised
every Sunday and not just in my kitchen?
