Real Life Poem by Mary Champion

Real Life

You can't theorise - you must feel it.
It's a bitter fruit but you must peel it.
You can't take a short cut to reach it,
for only the long run will teach it.
No use using second hand answers,
you have to be one of the dancers.
You cannot observe from the side-lines,
although you can check out the guidelines.
There is no one can tread the path for you.
You have to see heartbreak from your view.
There is no other way to achieve it.
My dear child, you have to believe it,
that one day the Truth will reward you
with the joy it alone can afford you.
But now it's a hard rocky trail that
you follow and fear you will fail at.
But don't ever doubt, you will make it,
just face there is no way to fake it.
You have your own cross, you must bear it
for no one is able to share it.
If I could I'd have spared you the sorrow,
but the only path to our tomorrow
runs through this dark night. There's no choosing,
for all other options meant losing.
