Reaping The Whirlpool Poem by Mary Champion

Reaping The Whirlpool

How have our well-ordered lives come to this -
helplessly spun in the whirling maelstrom?
Wrenched from complacently ignorant bliss
to a hell that there seems no escape from.
Myriad causes - no resolution
to the existential danger we face.
Stupidity brought the retribution
visited now on this sad Human Race.
Events had cast their shadows, all ignored
by the wilfully blind who failed to see -
to see a healthy balance was restored
before the coming of calamity.
The wheel of fate inexorably rolls
to a future, that no man controls.
