Reason Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Reason

Not many reasonable people in the world—
prejudice shapes character and thought.

Transparency is a result of reason—
almost mathematical, almost logical.
Not that you must know mathematics,
but you must have a mind that can discern,
that can distinguish between
what is good and what is bad for the world.

Narratives are easy to frame,
an adversary—easy to defame—
but it does not see the light of eternity;
that is the test most forget.

Reason, reason, only reason.
Even empathy arises out of reason:
the man you hurt a few minutes ago—
what did he feel?

If you could feel his hurt,
there exists reason in your heart.

Take that stance and proceed,
and I assure you—
the world will be a better place to live.
