Rebecca's Song Poem by jim hogg

Rebecca's Song

there's nothing left to say or do
except to say it's still as true
and in your eyes I see it too
you still love me; I still love you

but those who write our lines decreed
that you and I should both be free
and all this sadness, all these tears
will haunt our lives through all our years

though moonlit winters lie ahead
our stories aren't over yet
some day this love we share will end
and life may find us someone else

but all too soon we're at the gate
and though I know it's not too late
let's kiss once more for old time's sake
then slowly turn and walk away

Chorus

The saddest journey of them all
is walking through this empty hall
and all the memories that call
from all the frames that grace these walls
and though they've said we've had our turn
if I could choose again my love
this wouldn't be the end of us
and always wouldn't be enough
