Reckoning Poem by Nina B. Doughty

Reckoning

I watch as sunlight slowly rises,
parts the clouds, displays the day
The night dissolves, its blackness merging
as its darkness fades away
A moment in the evolution
of a timeless, constant play
Another moon. Another night. A constant changing,
Life moves on another day
I plead my soul will also waken,
kiss the morn, hold out to life
I note its languor and its lackness
as it looks toward the strife
Sheer reluctance to awaken
to the tawdry side of life
Bides its hour to awaken
holding fast to silent night!
