Reflections Poem by Christian Semmler

Reflections

Someone once asked me, 'What's wrong with you? '
I stood where I was ready to tell the truth
But when I couldn't answer I stood in shock
I didn't know what to do
I took a look back at myself and see what I have become
I am loved by family and adrimed by some
Hated by many, but confronted by none
'What's wrong you can't answer? ' This man yells at me
'Please! Just give me a moment to see what you see! '
Where do I stand and what are my beliefs
I've been called a saint but I say I'm a thief
I've stolen that idea of that great guy from your dreams
As you were reading my lines I slipped in through the seams
I wear the mask of false identity so that you don't hear my screams
And when I go home the wall is the only shoulder that I can lean
As this man continued to yell at me and try to explain about me what's true
I stepped forward and said, 'You know what? What's wrong with you? ! '
Then our eyes met and he became silent
His eyes filled the most peacful violence
He opened his mouth and then he began to say
'What's wrong with the world today? '
As I contemplated the idea that this perfect world is really imperfect
I realize that asking this one man what's wrong with him is just scratching the surface
Of all the problems that's wrong with me or with him
I forgot about the problems in the world we live in
We live in a world where it's more attractive to smoke weed than cigarettes
Where cussing makes you cool and it's funny to make fun of someone with Tourette's
We live in a world full of liars and hypocritical people
Where we only worry about ourselves and no one is equal
We live in a world where people starve to death and cancer is an uncureable venom
Where people walk 5K for hope yet we have an obesity problem
We live in a world full of people claiming to be something they're not
Where the people who are trying to make a change are the ones getting shot
We live in a world that gives us a certain image that is the ideal type
Where we do something so wrong to fit in that we can't sleep at night
I live in a world that crucifies me for speaking my mind
And if I don't believe what you believe then below Earth is a home I'll find
As the sudden realization of the issues that have arised
I find my self lost in thought then look up to meet this man in the eyes
He is smiling, as am I
'What's wrong with us? ' we ask in perfect harmony
I stood up tall as he copied me courageously
My head falls to a laugh as he steps near
Then I looked up slowly to see my own smiling face in the mirror
