Reflections.... Poem by Rey Sanidad

Reflections....

As the beam of tranquillity smiled in the west
The morning storms pursued us no more
The wave, while it welcomed the moment of rest
Still heaved, remembering pains that were over.

Calmly my heart took the clamor of the hour
Its passions were sleeping, mute as the dead
And the spirit silenced but remembered their power
Like the waves that flees at the force of the wind.

I thought of those days, when to pleasure alone
My heart ever granted a wish or a sigh
When the saddest emotion my heart had known
Was pity for those who were wiser than me.

Then I looked to the west, and the beautiful sky
Which morning had clouded, was pure clear sky
I exclaimed,
'May the heavenly eye shed light on the soul
that was darkened before.'

As I reflect, how soon in the cup of Desire
The pearl of the soul may be melted away,
I prayed to the Spirit who lighted the flame,
That Pleasure no more might its purity dim
So that, sullen but little, or brightly the same,
I might give back the favor I had borrowed from Him.

How blessed was the thought! it appeared as if Heaven
Had already an opening to Paradise shown;
As if, passion all chastened and sins forgiven,
My heart then began to be purely its own.
