Refraction Of The Day. From Balmont Poem by Liza Sud

Refraction Of The Day. From Balmont

Refraction of the day - my poems sing in me,
When the shiny ball starts to go down to the seas.
Then verses sound around, and they are chasing me,
buzzing, ringing and swarming as the summer bees.

Oh, wholy-singing swarm! Come to me, here, here!
Ready a place for you, the winged lines in garlands.
Already passed zenith, water's more light in seas,
And the above-world disc is sliding into air ramps.

Here's a new hive for you, the lovers of the flowers,
Arrange the cell in it, entire set of the sleepless.
So that in winter dusk, under wild whistling blowing,
I could take pleasure in your honey odoriferous.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

What a poem of infectious delight in the sheer wonder of living! I have been answering email and writing a letter to my friend of many years in Portland, you know those quiet hours at the computer, emotionally reserved in solitude, but suddenly your translation of this wonderful Balmont poem and its electric current has energized me body and soul. The poet has the widest possible vision, seeing the joy of life dramatized in the distant heavens and in a beehive in a field on earth. I'm assuming Balmont was a believe in the Pravoslaive Faith like you but maybe not as sincere or pervasive. And this poem, although not religious in its diction, is certainly a Hymn of Praise to the Creator. This poem will fulfill its title when I walk through Lebanon Hills Regional Park today because its enthusiasm will be refracted in my green mood as I walk in nature. Than you very much for this Balmont poem and the others you've translated. He is a new and wonderful Russian poet for me. You've fulfilled a fine service to Russian poetry in translating him for our appreciation.
