Relative Knot Poem by Daniel Trevelyn Joseph

Relative Knot

She tells people, “He said, ‘Off relatives’,
And I did so:
Now after thirty-five years,
He wants to attend every relative’s wedding
But I can’t change”.

The man thinks, “I stopped church-going then;
Today I want to go to church
Take part in my own way
Picking what is meaningful to me”.
But she doesn’t brook the thought,
She says she can't change.

Sympathy he now longs for is not forthcoming;
Scissors are out now and then
To sever the ties existing firmly for so long.

“Why are you going away for four days? ”
“Because there is a week-end between”
“But this is home”, she says, trying to make up.
Modified, he calls it off.
