Requiem For A Heart Mother Poem by Ban Sidhe

Requiem For A Heart Mother

Though fear ruled and self-doubt stricken,
She did what she could to help.
Whether asked or not.
Less than some...,
More than Most....

Though fear ruled and self-doubt stricken,
She always had time and a kind word.
Needed or not.
For others...,
Never for herself....

Though fear ruled and self-doubt stricken,
She always had money for a need.
Imagined or not.
For her children and relatives...,
For her children's children....

Though fear ruled and self-doubt stricken,
She had compassion.
She tried to understand.
She did not reject others...,
She did reject herself....

Though fear ruled and self-doubt stricken,
She was not afraid of her humanity.
She was afraid of her lack of humanity.
She was afraid of illusion.
She was afraid of her ghosts....

Like most of us,
She did not choose her parents.
She did not choose the challenges of her life.
She did choose how she overcame them.
She did choose her loves and her hates.
She did choose that her loves out-numbered her hates.

I have been honoured to Know her.
I have been honoured to Love her.
I have been honoured to have been Loved by her.

I did not think of her as my Birth Mother...,
I did not think of her as my Step Mother...,

I'll always think of her as my Heart Mother....
