Requiem For Rape (For Nirbhaya) Poem by Uma nair

Requiem For Rape (For Nirbhaya)

Since we're alone we can talk

Though you lie between sheets and see
More than us mortals

Life is one black sun with broken rays

Your hands meant to serve

Now lie flat like fallen nests

Delicate and defenceless..

But your death is one of a daughter
One who has shaken her city
Out of a sad, sleeping slumber
For in the hands of man's play
Girls morph into crumbling clay
Their screams scathed
In the war of witnessed worlds
