Restless Nights Poem by Mary OBrien

Restless Nights

Tossing and turning
My brain, a spider web
Unwinding thread by thread
So much I want to say, but will go unsaid

Counting the cracks
On the ceiling and walls
Rehearsing our last words
Wishing to change what you heard

Singing softly to a favorite song
Humming the second verse
The lyrics, they remind me of you
And love we had and held so true

I can't hold back these tears
They fall like petals to the ground
I try to hold it all in
The memories bury me before I begin

I realize I'm too late
I burned the bridges that led me to you
Closed all the windows and doors
When all I wanted was to be yours

Tossing and Turning
I lie here fighting this sleepless night
Thoughts of you flood over me
I'm drowning in this restless sea
