Reunion Musings Poem by Venkateswaran Krishnan Sreenivasan

Reunion Musings

Nineteen hundred and fifty five! Indeed a memorable year
For us in our medical career
We learnt the ABC of the art of cure
That brought our classmates together here.

In full camaraderie and cheer
Did we study medicine year after year
Of every campus event we were a part
Neither success nor failure could rend us apart.

We came from diverse walks of life
Yet pulled together without strife
Each one strove to reach his goal
And here or elsewhere played out his role.

At entrance time we were eighty
Exuberant youths near twenty
In our march through life past fifty years
Alas! We lost fourteen of our peers.

We reminisce them in silent prayer
May their souls have eternal peace!
And carry on our mission of care
To the day our earthly duties cease.

Our learned teachers were gems in their art,
Of high thinking and noble heart,
Great men who made their lives sublime
And left footprints on the sands of time

Many amongst us have risen to heights
By dint of work and sleepless nights
Let humility teach us to say
“It is all God’s will and way”

This meeting kindles our dormant spirits
And gives tongue to our sentient wits
We will cherish its memories to the last
To stop our brains from ageing fast

Let us strive to keep our health
And pray to the Lord to distance death
We shall meet again at seventy five
If God’s mercy keeps us alive.
