Rhyming Poetry Poem by Elia Michael

Rhyming Poetry

It is so hard to write at times
To think of things that you can say
To see if this or that word rhymes
To try avoiding that cliché

Some say that poems should not rhyme
But I for one do not agree
Just as I think that measured time
Or regular beat is for me

I like the discipline of form
I find it concentrates my thought
So poems I compose conform
To standard rules which I was taught

They say I am a slave to rhyme
And to predictability
I would rather that, every time
Than write the kind of verse that's free
