Richard's Men Poem by Leland D'Elormie

Richard's Men

They marched in August,
Two by two and side by side,
And all they met they trampled in a heavy stride,
And all they feared they fought with shining badger's teeth,
To wear the badge bold on their breast,
With blazing pride.

They marched at sunrise,
Step by step and beat by beat,
And all they met fell dusty dead beneath their feet,
And all they saw they gathered to the coffer door,
All but the battered bones left scattered in the street.

They marched by moonlight,
Hour by hour and horde by horde,
And all they loved they shattered with a silver sword,
And all they dreamt to fitful nothing finally came,
And so to nothing they went marching with their lord.
