Righting Poetry. Poem by Mike Berriman

Righting Poetry.

Good inspiration is sometimes the first line
It pops out of my head and into a rhyme
Another sharp trigger is one casual word
It invades the subconscious and so it is herd.

Remembering a line is a fallable thing
If it's not written down no song can I sing
A malaprop, a word, a mistake and a laugh
Will take a fresh course and can be my path.

A mutter, a splutter a mispronunciation
This is the juice that feeds the creation
Proper nouns so so, but verbs will inspire
Filling the page with love and desire.

A funny thing happened and so it is written
Lines tumble forth and the poet is smitten
Animals too, have cause and effect
But writing of beasts can engender regret.

This verse started with ' how do you do'
And finishes here if I am to be true
A good snappy finish sums it up well
And this is the last of inspiration to tell.
