Rockstar Marine Poem by Belle Violet

Rockstar Marine

I’m not sure how to deal
with a man taught not to feel.
I get the impression
he won’t make firm connections
unless they involve
cocaine or guitars;
and that’s sad because
I liked him so far.
Underneath that adorable smile
smiles back something dark.
True to form, like most guys
Conversation dropped
once my pants were off.
And, as expected,
It never picked back up.
He endangers
then endears me,
pushes, then nears me
and it’s all too confusing
for this old heart of mine.
I smell trickery and lust,
for once,
with due notice.
And I’m pretending
not to notice;
it’s blatantly obviously
He’s not looking for this.
That’s unfortunate because
I liked him so far.
