Rope Poem by Timothy Ward Ingersoll

Rope

Ropes

“Blest be the ties that bind”
but what’s to bless?

Rough ropes burn hands
That tightly grip
With good intent
But cannot hold

weak knots bind tight
And pull us under
Where only blade
Can life restore

But bonds of beauty
Hold and free
As need and cause demand
A life is saved then saved again

By ties that bless
